Dr. Marilou Nordez

The research of Marilou Nordez focuses on the production, use, and circulation of metals in Western Europe throughout the Bronze and Iron Ages. She is also actively involved in research networks, particularly as a member of the Association pour la promotion des recherches sur l’âge du Bronze (APRAB), and is dedicated to knowledge dissemination through teaching and public engagement.

She was awarded the European Joseph Déchelette Prize in 2020 for her doctoral thesis, defended in 2017: “The Middle Atlantic Bronze Age Through the Lens of Personal Adornment: Research on Body Ornaments from France and Neighboring Regions (15th–14th Century BCE)”, co-supervised by Pierre-Yves Milcent and Barbara Armbruster.

Originally from Loire-Atlantique, she developed a passion for the Atlantic Bronze Age—from the Iberian Peninsula to the British Isles—during her studies at the University of Nantes and later in Rennes, before beginning her PhD at the University of Toulouse–Jean Jaurès. After completing a three-and-a-half-year postdoctoral fellowship within the Franco-German research program Celtic Gold (TRACES laboratory, Toulouse), she is now a research associate at the CNRS (CReAAH laboratory, Rennes). She is currently involved in the excavation and analysis of a Bronze Age site in Côtes-d’Armor, where several metal hoards have been uncovered.
