Alice Samson

Testimonial by dr. Alice Samson, author of “Renewing the house”. Samson works as a researcher and lecturer in the Carribean Research Group at the Faculty of Archaeology, Leiden University.

When I approached Sidestone to publish my PhD dissertation to an impossibly tight deadline, they responded with speed, flexibility, and humour. A month later, rather than a Word document on a hard disk, I had an extremely professional book in my hands. Hurrah!

Sidestone made the process of manuscript preparation and publication an extremely pleasurable and smooth process in what can otherwise be a stressful period at the end of a PhD. Moreover, personally I enjoyed being involved in the creative process of layout and front cover design which made me feel I had control over my book from beginning to end.

As an archaeologist, my data relies heavily on good visual presentation. This meant the inclusion of hundreds of maps, illustrations and photos, as well as large data appendices and complex tables. Sidestone was committed to making these look excellent and I was extremely impressed with their expertise and solutions and how the image material looked in the finished product. I was also pleasantly surprised that the additional expense of including colour plates – something I had originally dismissed as being prohibitively expensive – was minimal.
