Angry or Happy? Smileys aren't smiling says Alice Samson

Smiley Sidestone author Alice Samson has received media attention worldwide for a paper she published with Bridged Waller in the leading academic journal "Current Anthropology". In the paper the authors investigate the finds of human figurines in the Caribbean. These figures all show their teeth, something that is traditionally interpreted as "devilish grimaces" a sign of danger or evilness. However Samson and Waller show that actually both humans and primates show their teeth when they are laughing: the image of the smiley, well-known to computer users, is completey wrong.
