Does Sidestone alter my publications in any way?

Sidestone will not make any alterations as to the content of your texts, however we will add the following features:

  • On the back of the cover, in the lower right corner, we will place a barcode and registration number. Please reserve at least 5 x 3 cm for this in your cover-design.
  • In the colophon of your book we will place the line “published by Sidestone Press” and “www.sidestone.com”. Also we will add the ISBN and/or the ISSN number. Please reserve space for these features.
  • On the first page, or title page, we will add our logo.
  • On the back cover we add the name “Sidestone”.

All these features will be present in the final PDF version that is sent to you to check. Although these features are a requirement, you may however make suggestions as to the final lay-out of these features.

Can I get a pre-press proof of my books before making a large order?

We only issue free pre-press proofs with a planned print-run of at least 75 copies. For publications with a smaller print-run you will not get a pre-press proof. We however strongly recommend all authors to order a single copy after a book is uploaded. In this way they can check whether everything is as it should be and make alterations if necessary. (also see the Faq: What do I do if there are errors in my publication?)

What do I do if there are errors in my publication?

We strongly recommend all authors to order a single copy in order to check for mistakes or errors. Subsequently three types of errors can occur:

  • Errors made by the author
  • Digital errors that occurred after the final PDF version was checked
  • Errors caused by printing or delivering
Errors that were made by the author, such as typing errors, are the responsibility of the author. Of course these can be changed, however, the author is responsible for the content of each book. This also applies to possible errors in the features that were added by Sidestone, as the author had to approve these alterations.

Some errors can occur after the final PDF version is checked and only become apparent when the publication is printed. Although unfortunate Sidestone will only refund one single copy! It is therefore important that you order your own single pre-press proof in order to check whether everything is in order. If errors did occur we will make changes and send you a new copy free of charge, we will however not refund a larger order. If you place a large order without first checking a printed version this will be at your own risk!

If you receive copies that are either damaged during transport or that were somehow misprinted, we will refund the order. Please contact us and we will provide you with instructions to return the damaged/misprinted copies and we will send you new copies as soon as possible.

How long will it take Sidestone to publish my book after submission of my manuscript?

In comparison with other publishers, Sidestone provides very fast publication, the most critical factor being the state of the submitted manuscript and the author’s deadline. The time between manuscript submission and receiving a book varies per project, but can typically take between two weeks to two to three months depending on deadlines, the condition of the manuscript when submitted, whether Sidestone does the layout, how many images, tables and corrections there are etc. Sidestone can make an estimate on the basis of a sample chapter.

How and why Google Booksearch?

Booksearch is a Google service which enables Google-users to search through the contents of your books. The copyrights of all publications however remain with the original author or publisher. The benefits of having your book included in Booksearch lies in the fact that everyone can browse and search your book online and if someone decides to buy the book they will be referred to the Sidestone Webshop. Including your book in Booksearch will therefore result in more people knowing about it, which can also positively influence sales numbers.

How can I make sure I receive my publication on time before a deadline?

To make sure your book is finished in time we recommend uploading your final version at least 1 month before your deadline. After uploading your files it will take at most a few days before your book is ready for print. When it is ready for print we recommend you first order a single copy in order to check whether everything is as it should be. If necessary there is still time to make some last-minute alterations.

We aim at delivering our domestic orders (within the Netherlands) within 5 to 6 working days, international orders may take a little longer depending on mail services. We recommend that you make your final order at least 3 weeks before your deadline. Should anything go wrong in the shipping or printing process you will still have time to get new copies before your deadline!

Yes, we can include a link in our Webshop that refers to a website with additional data. Here you can post for example a summary in a different language, reviews, or additional data. Many scientific reports for example contain many graphs, databases, illustrations etc. Only a number of those can usually be included in the actual book. Sidestone offers to host this information on our server. This information will be freely accessible to all visitors. We can also include a link to an external (relevant) website.
